Industry Standards for Passenger Transit, Rail Vehicle Specifications

Electrical

Relays

The following standards are commonly used for relays durable enough to withstand the typical vibration and shock environment, and to passenger transit, rail vehicles

Standard: MIL-PRF-6106 - Relays, Electromagnetic, Including Established Reliability Types
Purpose: This specification establishes general requirements for electromechanical relays with contact ratings from 25 amperes resistive (unless otherwise specified) and upward for use in electrical applications. Auxiliary contacts may be rated at lower currents. Several "Types" are provided, (I-IV), e.g. "Type I: Continuous duty, hermetically sealed."
Criteria: Specify compliance with standard, Include Type
Usage: ... shall be in accordance with MIL-PRF-6106, Type X
